EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Cleans interiors of boilers using brushes, industrial vacuum, and other equipment; checks boiler tubes for damage or corrosion, and reports findings to shop supervisor. 2. Participates in cleaning and overhauling oil burners during non-heating season. 3. Assist Mechanical Systems Technicians I - IV, as needed, in responding to repair tickets. 4. Performs semiskilled tasks in assisting a heating mechanic or a firebrick and refractory repair worker engaged in rebuilding or major repair of heating equipment including: removing and replacing oil pumps, lifting heavy units, tracing thermostat lines to locate leads and repairing or replacing leaking area, removing and replacing refractory material, and cleaning up work areas after repairs are completed. 5. May check and routinely calibrate thermostats and low limit controls. 6. May clean, check, and adjust burner nozzle and electrodes. 7. May answer emergency calls regarding improper temperature levels in classrooms and offices. 8. Performs related work as required.
