EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of carpenters, glaziers, locksmiths, roofers and other skilled and semiskilled personnel in the maintenance and repair of existing facilities and in the construction and installation of new structures and fixtures. Estimates time and material needs; obtains price quotes. Maintains records of job time and materials; maintains purchase records; reviews time records and verifies accuracy. Evaluates work requests and discusses requests with users; recommends approval or disapproval. Prepares drawings of cabinets, bookcases, doors, desks, counters, and other wooden fixtures to be manufactured in the shop. Selects lumber, sets up machines and measures and cuts component parts to size. Assigns and inspects the work of shop employees engaged in the assembling and repairing of furniture and other wooden fixtures. Makes layouts and sketches for large projects and prepares estimates of materials, time, and labor necessary to complete jobs. Inspects work in progress and upon completion for compliance with departmental standards and good safety practices. Ensures proper and timely completion of work orders. Makes changes in job plans as needed. Performs the more difficult phases of planning, maintaining, constructing and repairing buildings, fixtures and structures. Visits facilities to inspect work, resolve problems, and coordinate work activity. Coordinates work of carpenters and glaziers with that of workers in other crafts. Coordinates the ordering of supplies and equipment. Clarifies work order request from schools and ensures the proper and timely completion of data required on the work order request forms. Performs related work as required.
