WORKING TITLE: Material Fabrication Worker I GRADE: 12 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Summary Description: Under general supervision, performs semiskilled and skilled work in the manufacture, installation, and repair of venetian blinds, window shades, and audiovisual curtains. Work in this class involves average responsibility for carrying out established methods and procedures of the shade shop. Nature of work requires some physical effort in working from ladders or scaffolds, and there is limited exposure to the danger of cuts, bruises, or falls. Physical Demands: Ability to perform work requiring moderate physical effort, use of scaffolding, ladders, and lifting/moving of heavy objects. Special Requirements: None
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the tools, equipment, and procedures used in the manufacture, installations, maintenance, repair and modification of shades, venetian blinds, curtains, and similar type items used in offices and school buildings. Ability to read and write. Ability to repair and install shades, blinds, stage curtains, and similar equipment. Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Education Training Experience:High School or GED diploma required. Experience working with a variety of tools, equipment, and procedures used in the manufacture, installations, maintenance, repair and modification of shades, venetian blinds, curtains, and similar type items used in offices and school buildings. Ability to read and write. Experieince repairing and installing shades, blinds, stage curtains, and similar equipment.Certificate License:Possession of a valid Maryland class D driver^s license, or equivalent.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Example Duties:1. Makes scheduled and emergency calls to maintain, service, and repair venetian blinds, window shades, audiovisual curtains, movie screens, and stage curtains. 2. Removes and replaces defective materials and parts. 3. Inspects and tests mechanical units and makes necessary adjustments. 4. Measures and installs new window shades, audiovisual curtains, venetian blinds and stage curtains. 5. Makes extensive shop repairs to venetian blinds, and replaces defective slats and rails. 6. Repairs maps and screens. 7. Installs tracks and curtain rods. 8. Repairs, by hand or machine, torn curtains and shades. 9. Performs related work as required.
