SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, directs the work of electronic technicians and semiskilled helpers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems. Employees in this class are responsible for assigning and supervising the work of field staff and shop technicians in varied electronic servicing and maintenance jobs. Work includes the installation and maintenance of school-based audiovisual systems, inspection and repair bells, electronic circuiting, alarms, and related component equipment, and assisting the Supervising Electronics Technician II in the planning, follow through, and assessment of special electronic projects. This employee, in addition to designated work assignments, acts for the Supervising Electronics Technician II in the supervisor's absence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of inspecting, testing, installing, and repairing a wide variety of audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems; considerable skill in the application of electronic methods and techniques to educational situations. Ability to plan and supervise the work of electronic technicians; ability to provide technical assistance in the purchasing of audiovisual equipment, public address systems and related electrical and electronic devices. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Completion of technical training courses in electronics and television maintenance and increasingly responsible experience at a level comparable to Electronic Technician II. Supervisory experience preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland Class D driver's license or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring some climbing and physical exertion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to respond to emergency work requirements.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plans and supervises the work of electronic technicians and assistants in a wide range of repair areas.

2. Inspects completed work and performs/oversees the more difficult electronic installations. Coordinates the overhaul, adjustment and alternation of television receivers, mobile communication units, public address systems, taping machines, alarm systems, and assorted school learning equipment.

3. Assists in the ordering and pricing of replacement parts and other electronic equipment; provides technical advice and instruction in the operation and maintenance of complex electronic systems.

4. Tests equipment for compliance with plans, specifications, and layout diagrams.

5. Diagram unusual processes and directs the performance of those repair assignments.

6. Coordinates support work with other shops in the Division of Maintenance.

7. Discusses projects and repair jobs with the Supervising Electronics Technician II and makes recommendations on purchase of specialized equipment, parts, and assemblages.

8. Estimates repair costs, completes job reports, and maintains records.

9. Performs related work as required.
