SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, supervises the installation, maintenance, and repair of audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems. Work of this class involves responsibility for laying out work details, assigning duties, and directing the work of electronics technicians. Nature of work requires visits to school facilities in planning major installations of electronic equipment and inspecting projects at various stages of completion. Assignments in this class are made orally or through written work orders, and may include blueprints and technical specifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of inspecting, testing, installing, and repairing a wide variety of audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems. Ability to plan and supervise the work of electronics technicians; ability to provide technical assistance in the purchasing of audiovisual equipment, public address systems, and related electronic devices. Considerable skill in the application of the methods and techniques used in testing, inspecting, and repairing audiovisual and other electronic and electrical equipment. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Completion of a recognized technical training course in the fundamentals of electronics and television maintenance and repair, and considerable and varied experience in the installation, servicing, and repair of electronic equipment and systems. Supervisory experience preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: possession of a valid Maryland class D driver's license, or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring some physical exertion and climbing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) None

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plans, assigns, and inspects the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of electronic and electrical systems utilizing high voltage and light amperage including; VHF and UHF television receivers, public address systems, fire alarm systems and audiovisual equipment. Process emergency orders and directs the repairs and adjustments to equipment and facilities. Makes layouts and sketches for major repair or installation work and prepares estimates of time, materials, and labor necessary to complete job.

2. Repairs and adjusts equipment when difficult or unusual problems are encountered.

3. Assists in the preparation of specifications for the purchase of audiovisual equipment, parts, and supplies.

4. Provides technical advice and assistance in the planning for and utilization of public address systems, two-way car radios, and other specialized equipment.

5. Tests new equipment.

6. Tests new equipment for compliance with specifications.

7. Designs and assembles special parts, assembles and tests equipment.

8. Maintains job records and prepares reports.

9. Performs related work as required.
