WORKING TITLE: Security Patroller (Shift 1) GRADE: 14 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Summary Description: Under general supervision, performs regular mobile and foot patrol of Montgomery County Public Schools^ buildings and grounds. An employee in this class is responsible during evening and night hours and on weekends and holidays for the continuous monitoring of school facilities and the reporting of suspicious incidents requiring attention. Alertness, good judgment, and ability to work under varying climatic conditions are required. Physical Demands: Ability to complete duties involving extended standing, walking, stair climbing, exposure to inclement weather and related patrol activities. Special Requirements: Employees in this classification are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to work during inclement weather. Normal work schedule requires evening, night hours, weekend and holiday work. Reasonable overtime required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of security patrol procedures; knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in security work. Ability to understand and cant^ out oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action, handling situations firmly, courteously, and tactfully. Ability to operate two-way radio. Ability to learn the characteristics and operations of the MCPS Security Division. Good oral and written communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Education Training Experience:High School or GED diploma required. Considerable responsible work experience. Mobile patrol experience, including use of radio communications equipment preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:Possession of a valid Maryland Class C driver^s license or equivalent.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Example Duties:Performs mobile and foot security patrol, of school grounds and facilities Responds to radio dispatch calls from the security monitor located at Lincoln Center. Reports occurrences of fire, theft, accidents, trespassing, and other unusual occurrences to appropriate school official as directed. May support police officers in the apprehension of suspected offenders on Montgomery County Public Schools^ property at their request and direction. Analyzes security situations and quickly determines proper course of action. Responds to incidents on MCPS property, checks interior and exterior of buildings as appropriate. Summons appropriate staff to scene. Gathers and documents facts for report to supervisor. Performs related work as required.
