Copier Repair Technician

OFFICIAL TITLE: Copier Repair Technician CODE: 8820 SQ/OQ: Optimal Qualified
WORKING TITLE: Copier Repair Technician GRADE: 15 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the program manager and lead technician, performs skilled work in the maintenance of document copiers. Work in this class involves the overall maintenance of high-volume industrial copiers and related finishers, walk-up copiers, desktop printers, and fax machines. Responsible for the overall remedial and scheduled service support of broadly distributed accounts. Work is performed on-site and in the central copier repair shop. Provides quality service performance to meet or exceed customer commitments resulting in high levels of customer satisfaction. Minimum of three years direct copier repair service experience is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge and demonstrated experience of copier equipment and the tools necessary to perform repair work. Ability to diagnose and analyze malfunctions, install parts on the core products, and make effective repairs and adjustments as necessary. Strong demonstrated human relations and communications skills. Incumbents must be knowledgeable of the mechanical and operational features of such equipment in order to diagnose problems and make repairs and preventive maintenance duties with little direct supervision. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Completion of certificated training in copier repair from a recognized industry service provider, and base experience in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of copier equipment.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland class D driver's license, or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring considerable bending, standing, and lifting. Ability to hear and see moving equipment components. Able to lift 50 pounds and be in a mobile activity more than 40% of the duty time.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Frequent overtime required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Completes service-call responses to inspect and repair copier equipment in offices and schools.

2. Pursues professional and courteous customer-service duties with school/office staff.

3. Communicates electronically with central repair shop.

4. Manages and maintains own mobile parts inventory of common replacement parts.

5. Maintains electronic work log.

6. Completes standard preventive maintenance kits, clears paper path jams, and replaces web forms, image drums, clutch assemblies, drive belts, and small electric motors.

7. Complete regularly scheduled preventive maintenance duties.

8. Performs related duties, as assigned.
