WORKING TITLE: Printing Equipment Operator IV GRADE: 18 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Summary Description: Under direction, operates various computer applications, machines, and material-handling mechanisms and techniques associated with industrial printing. Consistently performs advanced equipment set-up and operations, as well as preventive maintenance and repairs, associated with two of the following major equipment categories: (1) duplicator/color copier, (2) lithographic printing/letterpress, (3) digital imaging/plate-making, (4) cutter/folder/collator/stitcher. Along with equipment operations and maintenance, the work of this class includes coordination of labor duties within an operator work group, training and support of fellow operators, maintaining a clean and well-organized work space, upkeep of personal work log, and inter-personal and e-mail communications with managers and peers. Physical Demands: Ability to move heavy objects up to 50 lbs, to sustain repetitive arm, waist and leg motions, and to stand for extended periods. Ability to hear and see moving equipment components. Special Requirements: Occasional overtime required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge and skill to safely and efficiently operate and maintain machines within two of the four equipment categories listed above, as well as trouble-shoot and coordinate repairs for one of the equipment categories. Ability to train, and provide advice and guidance to print shop staff. Advanced skills with systems software associated with a major equipment category. Considerable knowledge of Outlook, database computer software systems, and automated work order processing integrated system. Advanced professional correspondence skills. Ability to operate electric forklift, stock jogger, mechanical palette handler, and various sheet handling and finishing devices. Skilled in the trouble-shooting, problem-solving and accurate processing of various written work order formats. Skilled in the secure selection and storage of various printing materials, including equipment parts. Advanced knowledge of paper stock and printing system characteristics, sheet finishing options, as well as quality-assurance standards and unit-level performance measures. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Education Training Experience:High School or GED diploma required. Minimum of ten continuing education, training or professional development courses (ie: MCPS-Professional Development Online PDO). Minimum ten years of recent professional experience in industrial printing operations. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.Certificate License:Valid drivers license

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Example Duties:Meet with managers and peers to coordinate daily production operations.Reports to workplace according to duty schedule. Check e-mail messages and respond as appropriate. Participate in daily production planning meeting, coordinate hourly assignments within work group, and share information concerning upcoming equipment upgrades.Retrieve and process electronic job orders from outside sources or receive hard-copy Job Forms from supervisor. Retrieve electronic files from server and utilize advanced software application for digital output to specialized materials. Communicate with digital imaging work group concerning plate format.Retrieve press plates from digital imaging, install, make-ready all related materials, operate equipment repetitively, adjust equipment as needed, execute wash-up/job completion, and note job details on Job Form.Lead cross-training activity with fellow operator from another work group.Complete preventive maintenance, trouble-shoot machinery, contact outside service provider for specialized repair.Perform all duties of PEO III as required, and related duties as assigned.
