Summary Description:
Under direction, performs varied administrative support tasks, often with sensitive and confidential material, for the administrators and staff in the Division of Transportation Services. Provides primary support to the director, planning and resource management of transportation. Must be able to research, investigate or analyze, and consider several variables before acting. Exercises considerable initiative by gathering information, assembling information for reports coming due, tracking events or situations and keeping the assistant director informed. Serves as liaison with the county attorney’s office for bus incidents/accidents and coordinates security logs for the seven transportation locations. The work requires an extensive understanding of departmental organization, transportation policies and procedures.

Considerable knowledge of business English, office procedures and equipment; working knowledge of the general organization and functions of the major units of MCPS. Ability to keep complex records, assemble and organize data and to prepare reports from such records; ability to compose memoranda and letters from general instructions; ability to carry out continuing assignments on own initiative; ability to take notes for group meetings may be required for some positions. Ability to work with other county agencies. Ability to speak a second language desirable. Ability to use standard office productivity computer programs. Ability to evaluate in-coming emergency data concerning accidents or incidents on school buses to react effectively and to determine next step. Ability to perform under pressure to meet deadlines. Good oral and written communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). |
Education Training Experience:High School or GED diploma required. Progressively responsible experience as a secretary and extensive knowledge of the Division of Transportation Services required. Knowledge of Division of Transportation Services and state mandated COMAR regulations, policies, and procedures required. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
