WORKING TITLE: Instructional Materials Assistant II, Evaluation & Selection Unit GRADE: 14 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, verifies textbook, instructional materials evaluation and textbook copyright updates according to MCPS Regulation IIB-RA using the MCPS evaluation databases; assists central office and school staff in complying with MCPS regulations; assists in providing effective telephone support to school and office staff in defining the evaluation process; manages materials ordered via FMS, verifies that materials have been properly evaluated, researches vendors materials for content and correct bibliographic information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of MCPS evaluation procedures for instructional materials and textbooks, Ability to review procedures, advise colleagues, research compliance by applying established regulations; ability to use current financial management software products; ability to effectively utilize vendor Internet sites; Working knowledge of business English and spelling. Ability to work independently to set priorities and manage workload during heavy volume months, ability to deal courteously and effectively with a wide variety of people and overcoming difficult situations; ability to exercise judgment in resolving problems; ability to maintain complex records and to prepare reports from such records; ability to make decisions based upon experience, good judgment, and established departmental policies, procedures, and regulations. Skill in the operation of MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access, etc. Good oral and written communications and human relations skills. Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Experience progressively responsible business support activities in a large busy office. Thorough working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Excel and Word. Experience and training in the financial management system (FMS). Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to operate computer terminal for prolonged periods.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enters data from receiving reports and other documents into computerized physical asset inventory system.
1.Reviews material evaluations from school and central services staff for accuracy and compliance with MCPS regulations and procedures (MCPS Regulation IIB-RA)
2.Review form 365-25s for Instructional Materials and Textbooks for accuracy and required signatures.
3.Communicate evaluations process to MCPS staff.
4.Oversee the textbook approval process for curriculum supervisor/coordinators.
5.Maintains the instructional materials and textbook approvals in MCPS evaluation databases
6.Research and update copyright updates for previously approved textbooks.
7.Maintains the 30-day textbook shelf according to MCPS Regulation IIB-RA
8.Provides bi-monthly lists of newly approved textbooks and instructional materials for inclusion in FMS using current MS Office products.
9.Maintains files and records; proofs reports and corrects information as appropriate.
10.Performs general office clerical work as assigned.
11.Performs related work as required.
