Clarksburg, Northwest and Seneca Valley Clusters Boundary Decision
Dear Community Members of the Clarksburg, Northwest, and Seneca Valley Clusters:
On November 26, 2019, the Board of Education (Board) voted on the boundaries for the Clarksburg, Northwest, and Seneca Valley clusters for the 2020–2021 school year. The adopted boundaries are available here.
We understand that change and transition can be stressful for students. For those who will be attending new schools in the fall, our principals, teachers, counselors, and support staff will be ready to welcome students into the building. As stated in the Board’s resolution on this reassignment, Montgomery County Public Schools staff will ensure that academic and support services are provided for students who are reassigned to a new school, and for all students in the schools affected by this boundary study.
Additionally, we know that there has been passion in the community about this process, and that some are satisfied with the outcome, while others are disappointed or frustrated. As we move forward from the Board’s decision, we are committed to a concerted and collaborative effort to build a strong, resilient fabric for the new school communities that will be formed.
As part of this effort, we have established a community engagement team that will help facilitate opportunities for students, parents, and staff to come together to connect or reconnect with their school communities. These opportunities will include community circles, welcoming events, social gatherings, study circles, and community volunteer activities. The first opportunities will be offered in January 2020. More information about these engagement activities will be available in the coming weeks.
Please note that the school assignment tool on the website will not be updated to reflect this boundary reassignment until this school year ends in June 2020. If you have a specific question about your school assignment for the 2020–2021 school year, please call 240-314-4700 or send an email to the Public Information Office at pio@mcpsmd.org. If you have a question about your school for the upcoming year, please contact the school directly. Our principals welcome your calls and emails about classes, programs, and other opportunities at their schools. A directory of all school contact information can be found here.
More information regarding this boundary reassignment will become available in the coming months.
Thank you for being part of our Montgomery County Public Schools community.
Sincerely,
Shebra L. Evans Jack R. Smith, Ph.D.
