Seat Belts on MCPS School Buses

The MCPS Department of Transportation is proud to announce that it is taking student safety on school buses to the next level. As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, MCPS has begun the process of phasing in seat belt equipped buses in time for the 2019-2020 school year. Our goal is to install seat belts on ALL MCPS school buses over the course of the school bus replacement cycle, starting with some of those that serve our students with special needs.

School travel research continues to indicate that school buses are the safest way to get to and from school. Introducing school buses equipped with seat belt systems makes an extremely safe vehicle even safer.

Students who ride a seat belt equipped bus will come home with additional information during the first week of school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your transportation cluster manager or a bus route supervisor.
