The StudySync Curriculum: A Process and Outcome Evaluation

Description:

This process and outcome evaluation investigated the extent to which the middle school English Language Arts (ELA) core curriculum, StudySync, was implemented with fidelity since year one of implementation in the 2019–2020 school year and how well it has addressed the needs of diverse learners in MCPS. Additionally, it examined students’ literacy achievement and English language proficiency trends and evaluated the effectiveness of professional development in supporting teachers with curriculum implementation.

Recommendations:

Based on the results of the evaluation, it is recommended for the district to:

  1. Offer more comprehensive, practical professional development throughout the school year to enhance curriculum implementation.
  2. Communicate clear and consistent expectations for implementing curricula with fidelity.
  3. Establish a robust system for ongoing monitoring and accountability to ensure curriculum adherence.
