The Extended Learning Opportunities Summer Program (ELO) was designed to provide additional instruction in reading/language arts and mathematics to entering kindergarten through Grade 3 students in selected Title I schools. This report summarizes the findings of the first-time implementation of the ELO summer program. It focuses on whether the program produces overall academic benefits in reading and math and whether students in all racial/ethnic groups and at all levels of academic need also benefit. Many features of the implementation were also evaluated.
