Description:
The research brief reports the established spring DIBELS score thresholds to provide MCPS educators and administrators with a valuable tool for predicting student reading outcomes. These predicted outcomes help guide early intervention strategies and instructional planning to build reading readiness in primary grades. Ultimately, the findings enable the early identification of students at risk of not meeting state literacy policy expectations for Grade 3.
Recommendations:
In alignment with Montgomery County Public Schools Strategic Plan Goal 1, Academic Excellence, and the Comprehensive PreK-3 Literacy Policy designated by the Maryland State Board of Education, school leaders are required to establish intentional monitoring and support for students who are identified as unlikely to meet state assessment expectation. School teams must utilize research- and evidence-based benchmark scores to identify at-risk students early and implement targeted interventions to support student reading development and readiness for state assessments.
