This brief provides data that describe changes in the suspension rates for elementary, middle, and high school students. Between 1999-2000 and 2006-2007, middle school suspension rates both increased and became more disproportionate for African American and Hispanic students. In this same period, high school suspension rates held steady, but became more disproportionate for African American and Hispanic students.
