Trends in ACT and SAT Testing Taking: 2006 to 2008

Description:

This performance update describes changes in ACT and SAT test taking patterns among Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and graduates in the Classes of 2006 to 2008.

Recommendations:

  • Comparisons of SAT and ACT test scores are problematic because the scores are not statistically equivalent.
  • One way of comparing relative performance is to examine standard deviation (SD) differences in group mean scores on the ACT (SD = 5) and SAT (SD = 300).
