Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will celebrate the start of the 2023-2024 school year with a media event at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at the new Cabin Branch Elementary School. 

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monifa B. McKnight and Montgomery County Board of Education President Karla Silvestre will join other local officials at the event.

MCPS is expecting nearly 162,000 students on the first day of school. Dr. McKnight and  Ms. Silvestre will discuss the coming school year and the strategic areas of focus for the district. Following the press conference, guests will be invited to tour the school and see students and teachers in their classrooms.
