Viewpoint: Teen Driving--The Teen Perspective, a live call-in show featuring teens from local high schools, will air on Monday, May 2, at 7:00 p.m. on Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Cable Channel 34. Produced by the MCPS Instructional Television unit, the program focuses on the young person's view of the teen driving crisis.

The program will explore the risk-taking behavior and mind-sets of young drivers, such as the “Superman: I am invincible” and “This won't happen to me” attitudes. The show also will feature discussion of effective deterrents and strategies that may curb teen car fatalities. This call-in talk show includes guests and a teen studio audience.

Live airing of Viewpoint on May 2 will be followed by replays during May as follows: Mondays and Fridays at 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays at 6:30 p.m.

This Viewpoint program is part of the school system's Take Control campaign, which includes a variety of talk shows, documentaries, and roundtable discussions addressing the teen driving issue. In addition, Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are being created with the involvement of many MCPS students. Students are helping to research, focus group test, script, and star in the spots. Some of the PSA titles include “Training Wheels,” “Hill Hopping,” “Tough Love,” and “Invincible Teens.”
