Press Event to Highlight Opening of School
August 24, 2006
Press Event at New Clarksburg High School Highlights
New Programs and Facilities for the 2006-2007 School Year
School Year Opens with Five New Schools,
Full-Day Kindergarten in All Elementary Schools
Join Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, members of the Board of Education, and other officials on the opening day of school at the new Clarksburg High School. The press event on Monday, August 28, at 9:00 a.m. at the school will highlight new programs and facilities for the 2006-2007 school year.
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) begins the school year on August 28 with 139,000-plus students and more than 11,000 teachers—about 1,000 of them new to MCPS.
Five new schools, full-day kindergarten for all students, and two new magnet programs at Poolesville High School highlight the start of school this year. Clarksburg is the first new high school to open since 1998. Other new schools are Great Seneca Creek, Little Bennett, Roscoe R. Nix, and Sargent Shriver elementary schools. This brings the total number of MCPS schools to 199.
