A house built by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students at 3714 Munsey St. in Silver Spring is complete and ready for sale.

A Cornerstone Ceremony was held on May 14 to celebrate the completion of the house, which was designed, built, landscaped and decorated by MCPS students. The Young American House XXXVII has taken two years to build and involved more than 400 students studying various aspects of building construction. These students, mostly juniors and seniors, partnered with students in interior design, horticulture and ceramics classes to complete the house.

The Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation (CTF) is the major sponsor and supporter of the construction trades program in MCPS. CTF purchases the land and pays for all aspects of the building and sale of each house. Proceeds from the sale are returned to CTF to fund the next house.

CTF is a non-profit organization providing a unique partnership between MCPS and the Montgomery County business community, advocating for the best possible construction-related student education, career training and preparation for college. CTF teaches a variety of construction industry trades, including carpentry, construction electricity, plumbing, masonry, heating ventilation and air conditioning, architecture design and CAD technology. CTF programs are located at Damascus, Blake and Thomas Edison high schools.
