Poolesville High School Ranks in the Top 100 of America’s Most Challenging High Schools
Seven MCPS Schools Ranks in Top 20 of Washington Area and Maryland Schools
Poolesville High School ranks as number 93 in the 2017 America’s Most Challenging High Schools list published by The Washington Post. The school ranks first among Maryland schools.
Five schools ranked in the top 200 nationally—Poolesville, Richard Montgomery, Winston Churchill, Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Walt Whitman high schools.
Schools are ranked by The Washington Post based on a ratio of the number of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school in 2016, divided by the number of seniors graduating that year.
“Providing more students with the chance to take rigorous classes like AP and IB is an important part of our work to prepare students to thrive in their future,” said Superintendent Jack Smith. “We have work to do to eliminate barriers and ensure that we are meeting the educational needs of all students.”
The list includes 2,323 schools across the country and more than 180 schools in the Washington region.
