Appointment of Steven G. Seleznow as Deputy Superintendent of Schools is Approved by Montgomery County Board of Education

July 13, 1999
The Montgomery County Board of Education today unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Steven G. Seleznow as deputy superintendent of schools. The action followed an announcement yesterday by Dr. Jerry D. Weast, Montgomery County Public Schools' superintendent designate, of his choice for the deputy position.

Dr. Seleznow will assume his new duties on July 14, 1999. He succeeds Larry A. Bowers, the school system's chief financial officer, who has been acting deputy superintendent since October of 1998.

Dr. Seleznow has served as associate superintendent in the Office of School Administration for the past three years. He joined Montgomery County Public Schools in 1975 as a teacher at Glen Haven Elementary School. After a series of teaching assignments he became an elementary principal trainee at Cannon Road Elementary School. His first principalship was at Highland View Elementary School. He also served as principal of White Oak Middle School. In 1992, he was appointed a director in the Office of School Administration.

Dr. Seleznow is a 1975 graduate of Boston University. He received a master's degree in administration/supervision and curriculum from the University of Maryland and master's and doctoral degrees from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education.

Among his recent honors is a Lifetime Membership Award from the Montgomery County Council of PTAs and the National Model for Peer Mediation Award from the American Bar Association.
