Maryland Association of Boards of Education Joins Montgomery County Board in Support of Resolution to Reduce Handgun Violence

October 7, 1999
The Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) voted to support a resolution on handguns and school safety introduced by the Montgomery County Board of Education during MABE's annual statewide conference in Ocean City on September 29.

The resolution endorses strict enforcement of current laws and strategies regarding handguns and supports efforts to develop and promote effective strategies to reduce handgun violence and deaths, especially involving children.

MABE's action follows approval of the resolution by the Montgomery County Board of Education at its September 14 public meeting.

The resolution also urges Governor Glendening's recently-created Task Force on Childproof Handguns to propose the most effective and practical ways to ensure that handguns sold in Maryland can only be fired by responsible, authorized persons.
