Special Education Degree Program

December 23, 1999
MCPS, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, is offering a master's program in special education. Information on the program will be made available during two orientation sessions on January 18 and February 2, 2000 at Johns Hopkins University, Montgomery County Center, Medical Center Drive, Rockville.

Individuals who hold a bachelor's degree, including current instructional assistants, and are interested in teaching students with mild to moderate disabilities are encouraged to apply. The program leads to a master of science in special education and constitutes eligibility for a generic special education certification from the Maryland State Department of Education.

Those selected for the program will complete approximately 36 graduate credits over a two-year period while employed by MCPS as special education instructional assistants. The curriculum comprises 10 courses and six hours of practical training. Courses are offered in the late afternoon and evening, and MCPS tuition reimbursement may be available to qualified employees.
