April is designated annually as the Month of the Young Child. A number of events in Montgomery County are scheduled to celebrate the month and to focus on the importance of a child’s educational and family experiences from birth to age five.

Upcoming area events in recognition of the month include the following:

• Thursday, March 23—Representatives from Montgomery County Public Schools and elected officials will issue a joint proclamation for the Month of the Young Child at a ceremony at Stone Mill Elementary School at 9:30 a.m.

• Monday, March 27—A Board of Education resolution in honor of the month is scheduled for the Board of Education’s business meeting at the Carver Educational Services Center at approximately 6:30 p.m.

• Saturday, April 1—Lakeforest Mall, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Family Festival with entertainment, child activities, resources, and giveaways. Contact Beth Molesworth, 240-777-1331.
