Record 283 Students Named Nat'l AP Scholars

November 5, 2007
A total of 283 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students—surpassing all-time highs over the past two years—have been named National Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars for performance on AP exams in spring 2007.

MCPS had 20 National AP Scholars in 2003, 121 in 2004, 160 in 2005, 224 in 2006 and 283 in 2007. Students become National AP Scholars by scoring an average grade of 4 or higher (out of a possible 5) on eight or more AP tests. Twenty-one out of the school system’s 25 eligible high schools had National AP Scholars.

In addition, the Class of 2007 set an MCPS record for the number of test takers who met or exceeded requirements for AP awards from The College Board in four categories of increasing difficulty: AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, AP Scholar with Distinction, as well as National AP Scholar.

In total, The College Board honored 3,879 MCPS graduates and current students for outstanding performance following 2007 exams, an increase of 211 students over last year.
