Nominations Sought for Agnes Meyer Award
November 7, 2007
One exceptional Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) teacher will be selected for recognition and a $3,000 award in the annual Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Awards program sponsored by The Washington Post. Goals of the program are to recognize excellence in teaching, encourage creative and quality instruction, and contribute in a substantive way to improving education in the Washington Metropolitan Area.
Parents, students, staff or other community members may nominate a teacher for this award. Nominees must be full-time certified regular or special education teachers of prekindergarten through Grade 12. The award is intended for those teachers who work directly with students in their classrooms on a daily basis or with their assigned caseloads. Teachers must have a minimum of three years of teaching experience in MCPS. The Washington Post is requesting that the teacher selected maintain his or her teaching position throughout the 2008–2009 school year. Nominees must be teachers who—
· instill in students a desire to learn and achieve;
· understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents, and foster their self-esteem;
· demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students;
· foster cooperative relationships with colleagues and the community; and
· demonstrate outstanding leadership.
The nomination packet is available on the Office of Human Resources Web site at the link below. Go to the “Awards and Recognition” navigation bar on the left side.
The deadline for all nomination packets is December 19, 2007. For more information, contact Catherine Sweeney, Office of Human Resources, at 301-279-3900.
