Parent meetings will be held at two federally funded Title I elementary schools in May to describe the enrollment options which may be available next year in response to requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). NCLB provides parents with the option to seek enrollment for their children in another designated school if their home Title I school has not demonstrated two years of sustained improvement in overall student performance.

The meetings, both of which begin at 7:00 p.m., will be held at Twinbrook Elementary School on Monday, May 5, 2008, and Oak View Elementary School on Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

The two schools are awaiting this year's results of the Maryland School Assessment (MSA), scheduled for release in June, to determine if they will be required to provide the choice options next year. The Title I schools will only provide the enrollment options if they do not meet their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets in the same content area on the MSA for the second consecutive year. Once a school achieves the AYP standard for two consecutive years, the school is no longer required to participate in the choice option.

The meetings have been scheduled to give parents adequate notice to plan for potential enrollment options. An information packet including notification about the meetings was mailed to parents.
