March 24, 2000
As part of the Maryland Solar Schools Program, a partnership between the Maryland Energy Administration and BP Amoco initially will provide six Maryland schools with utility-connected solar electric (photovoltaic or PV) systems as a source of electricity. Olney Elementary School is the first of these schools to receive equipment to access this clean, efficient energy source.

This occasion will be marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, March 27, at 2:00 p.m.at Olney Elementary School, 3401 Queen Mary Drive in Olney.

PV is a renewable energy technology which converts radiant energy from the sun into electricity. The Solar Schools Program is one component of the state program to install solar electric systems on rooftops throughout Maryland.
