Educators and Community Leaders To Focus on 21st Century Learners

Nearly 800 school and community leaders with a stake in charting the future of Montgomery County middle and high schools will gather on June 23 at Northwest High School for the Fifth Annual Partners for Rigor through Relevancy Conference. The event is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Montgomery County Public Schools, in partnership with Montgomery College, The Universities at Shady Grove, Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education, and the Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations is sponsoring the conference, Challenging 21st Century Learners—Connecting Classrooms.

Dr. Ronald Ferguson, director of the Achievement Gap Initiative at Harvard University, will deliver the keynote address, Racial Achievement Gaps in High Achieving School Districts: Working Toward Excellence with Equity. Dr. Ferguson also will present a breakout session, High Achievement Parenting.

Featured presenters include Garfield Gini-Newman, senior trainer for The Critical Thinking Consortium, and John McCarthy, state’s attorney for Montgomery County, who will address youth safety. A panel of national, state, and local award-winning teachers and breakout sessions on promising practices also will be featured.
