Sophomore at John F. Kennedy High School Elected Student Member of the Board of Education

A sophomore at John F. Kennedy High School has been elected the new student member of the county Board of Education for the 2000-2001 school year.

Christopher Lloyd was chosen by 74.5% of the 48,111 secondary students who cast ballots in the May 4 election conducted by the Montgomery County Region of the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MCR). He will begin his one-year term as the 23rd member of the Board on July 1.

His opponent, Steven Ramsey, is a student at Zadok Magruder High School.

Lloyd is an honor roll student who has been active in student government. He is a member of several athletic teams, including cross country, wrestling and outdoor track, and he writes for the school newspaper, The New Frontier. He is enrolled in Kennedy's Leadership Training Institute. Lloyd is a graduate of the Eastern Middle School Humanities and Communication magnet program.

The current student Board member is Laura Sampedro, a senior at Springbrook High School.
