Superintendent Releases Report on Spring Forums
June 22, 2012
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Joshua P. Starr released a report on the four forums he held this past spring. More than 1,200 people attended the spring forums, which focused on four important topics: English language learners, gifted education, special education, and social and emotional learning.
Each forum provided attendees the opportunity to hear about the latest trends and research from local and national experts, and then participate in facilitated small-group discussions. The report summarizes the presentations as well as the thoughts and ideas shared at the forums and on participant comment cards.
“I am grateful that so many people took the time to participate in our spring forums and discuss these important topics,” Dr. Starr said. “It is another indication of how deeply our community cares about our students and our schools.”

During his first year as superintendent, Dr. Starr held 28 community events, which were attended by nearly 4,000 students, employees, parents and other community members. The events included 17 Listen and Learn sessions for community and staff; four student town halls; three book clubs and four spring forums. In addition, Dr. Starr visited nearly 100 schools and held meetings with many civic and community organizations.
