Media Advisory: MCPS Summer Food Service Program Will Provide Thousands of Free Meals

Montgomery County Councilmember Valerie Ervin and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will celebrate the Summer Food Service Program with a media event at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Springbrook High School. Councilmember Ervin will be joined at the event by local and state officials and members of the community.

Each summer, MCPS serves free, nutritious meals to children throughout the county, as part of a variety of programs. This year, nearly 10,000 students will receive meals at 115 locations, including eight walk-in locations where children 18 and under can come in for a free meal. Last year, the Summer Food Service Program served more than 213,000 meals. The Summer Food Service Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
