Media Advisory: Superintendent Starr to Hold Book Club Event Tonight (Feb. 19)

Superintendent Joshua P. Starr will hold a book club event TONIGHT, Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 7 p.m. The book being discussed is Making Hope Happen, by Shane J. Lopez, who will join Dr. Starr for the event.  

More than 100 employees, parents, and community members are expected to join Dr. Starr and Dr. Lopez as part of the live studio audience. People can also participate by
watching the event online or on MCPS TV (Comcast Channel 34) and submitting questions by email to ask@mcpsbookclub.org or via Twitter using the hashtag #mcpsbookclub.
 

Dr. Lopez is a senior scientist at Gallup and is one of the nation’s leading researchers on hope. His book, Making Hope Happen, explores the power of hope as an indicator of success in education, relationships, and the business world. Engagement, hope, and well-being are being measured as important milestones as part of the MCPS Strategic Planning Framework.

Dr. Starr began holding book clubs in 2011 as a way to engage the community in a conversation about education and learning.
