Junior at Seneca Valley High School Elected Student Member of the Board of Education

A junior at Seneca Valley High School has been elected the new student member of the county Board of Education for the 2001-2002 school year.

Dustin Jeter was chosen by 60.7 percent of the 46,661 secondary students who cast ballots in the April 25th election conducted by the Montgomery County Region of the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MCR). The overall voter turnout was 66.3 percent. Jeter will begin his one-year term as the 24th member of the Board on July 1.

His opponent, Ann Horwitz, is a student at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

Jeter currently is president of MCR, having first served in that position during his sophomore year. He has been a member of the Montgomery County Junior Council and a panel for the African American Festival of Academic Excellence. He participated in the Montgomery County School Board Composition Task Force and is the first student to serve on the Committee for Montgomery. He has been a member of the Montgomery County Honors Orchestra and his school's football team.

The current student member of the Board of Education is Christopher Lloyd, a student at John F. Kennedy High School.
