The Montgomery County Board of Education provides leadership and oversight for Montgomery County Public Schools. This week’s news from the Board of Education includes celebrating Champions for Children, the superintendent search, and a reminder to give input on an upcoming policy revision.

Champions for Children

Superintendent Search

The search for MCPS’ next superintendent is now firmly in the advertising and recruiting phase.

  • The Board is reviewing the results of the superintendent search survey, along with input gathered in community meetings and focus groups, to create a leadership profile to guide them as they consider candidates.
  • You can share your questions about the superintendent search process using this form
  • The Board anticipates reviewing prospective candidate materials in the next few weeks.

Opportunities for Engagement

The Board of Education reminds the public to review draft updates to Policy IOD and share feedback by May 6. Policy IOD is about educating students who are learning English. The amendments:

  • Rename the policy to Policy IOD, Emergent Multilingual Learners,
  • Encourage a positive focus by seeing students as already having valuable language skills while becoming multilingual.
