Testimony indicated that Roberto Clemente Middle School is over capacity and Martin Luther King Middle School is under capacity. Could boundary changes ease the overcrowding at Roberto Clemente Middle School? If not, why not?

Question#: 15

ANSWER:

The topics of facility utilization and boundary changes are addressed annually in the fall through the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) process. During this process, the school system evaluates projected school enrollments and utilization levels, and recommendations are made as needed. The level of utilization at Roberto W. Clemente Middle School has, to date, not warranted a recommendation to reassign students out of the school. The superintendent of schools will review this issue again in fall 2016 as recommendations are prepared for the Superintendent’s Recommended FY 2018 Capital Budget and Amendments to the FY 2017–2022 CIP.
