EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews and evaluates programs and services within the school district to assure provision of comprehensive health services for students;2. Collaborates with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Maryland State Department of Education, and related entities that support public health to assure implementation of local compliance with school health requirements and plan local school initiatives;3. Leads and assists cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate system-wide health initiatives;4. Reviews, evaluates and recommends updates/changes to MCPS policies and procedures in accordance with legislative actions, regulations and best practices in school health services to assure provision of comprehensive health services for students; 5. Represents MCPS on relevant boards, commissions and committees;6. Provides technical assistance and professional development opportunities for school leaders to support student achievement;7. Utilizes serious incident data and public health trends to make recommendations for programmatic offerings to schools, and design and implement health education campaigns and activities in support the health and well-being of students and for disease prevention;8. Reviews, updates and assures implementation of required health related training and professional development for district staff;9. Collaborates and communicates with DHHS, the Maryland Department of Health Public Health, and school district and/or building leaders to monitor health through community health assessments, registries and promote and encourage healthy behaviors, respond to and assist communities in recovery, and help students and families access health services; and serves as a resource to schools, students, and families; 10. Collaborates with Department of Health and Human Services and school leaders to assess health trends to identify health risk factors specific to communities, report and/or manage the response, including but not limited to communicable disease cases;11. Writes grant applications related to public health initiatives, and manages monetary funds;12. Assigns priorities for health-related interventions in order to provide the greatest benefit to the MCPS community, including students, families, and staff;13. Advocates with local and state authorities in improving the access to health services in underserved communities;14. Provides information to the school community, including students, families, and staff, on local health programs and services that are available to improve access to care;15. Develops and delivers effective, targeted, and culturally appropriate health education programs for schools and families to inform school communities of health promotion practices, disease prevention, and public health outbreaks;16. Develops policies and regulations, strategic planning, and community health improvement planning to address public health concerns and health disparities, including maternal and child health issues, adolescent health and wellness, and overall nutrition;17. Manages public health issues by connecting students and families with health-related resources and services, such as access to immunizations and healthcare services to provide a healthier environment for students and families;18. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
