Transition Day (Monday, Aug. 24) is the first full day of school for students entering kindergarten, sixth grade and 9th grade (plus, third grade at intermediate schools) and students new to MCPS.

Back-to-School Starts Aug. 22: Find Your Fair!
MCPS will host six regional Back-to-School Fairs for the kickoff of the 2026–2027 school year on Saturday, Aug. 22. Three fairs will be held in the morning and three will be in the afternoon.
