WORKING TITLE: FARMS Data Assistant GRADE: 13 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, performs skilled office support for the computer-based FARMS information system and general office functions. The work consists of entering data into computerized data base using a standard computer keyboard, updating and editing electronic and paper files, and producing reports. Workers are familiar with the meaning and significance of the data, the structure and operation of the files, and the rules and commands needed to access, update, edit and produce reports on the data. The work of the class involves accessing, monitoring, and maintaining various electronic databases of a confidential nature. Employees must be familiar with confidentiality regulations and responsible for assuring the safe and proper treatment of such data. Work requires frequent contact with students, parents, school staff, and MCPS administrative offices. Must be familiar with the MCPS network, directory structures and login procedures, FMS, Lawson and general administrative and office functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proficiency in the operation of desktop computers and common workplace software, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications. Ability to manipulate data files and produce required reports and memos, working knowledge of business English and spelling. Ability to use organizational strategies, to work under tight deadlines, and communicate effectively with all staff. Good human relations and communications skills. Experience with FARMS decision-making process and terminology. Knowledge of FMS and Lawson. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High school or GED diploma required. Experience working with a variaty of software applications, setting up batch runs, and responding to customer data processing requests desireable. Training in operation of word processing and office systems machines and progressively responsible experience in using computer workstations in word processing, database, or spreadsheet software applications. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Requires operating computer terminals for sustained period of time.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Answers questions from MCPS staff, students, and parents regarding the FARMS process. Refers questions to others as necessary.
2. Works collaboratively with DFNS technology support team to enhance the FARMS process.
3. Inputs data for state and local reporting.
4. Works collaboratively with MCPS OCTO and Office of Communications and Family Outreach.
5. Extracts data from data files and transfers data to other applications.
6. Inputs student and school data into FARMS system.
7. Assists with directions for software use through verbal and written communication.
8. Troubleshoots technical difficulties with staff, answering questions when possible and referring staff to a higher level of software support when necessary.
9. Updates MSDE databases.
10. Provides support for general administrative and office functions, as required.
11. Performs related work, as required
