EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assigns and supervises the work of the computer operators; orients new workers to procedures and standards of the unit; instructs operators on new procedures. 2. Operates computer data center equipment as necessary; powers the computer server and related equipment up or down, inspects run package and loads tapes or, disks or cards; processes run observing computer monitor for messages and status reports. 3. Refers to technical manuals for reference and message responses and how to respond to console terminal monitoring. 4. Ensures the proper input data is provided; diagnoses and solves operational problems; prepares problem reports; makes decisions regarding situations caused by hardware failures; assures that schedules are maintained and follows through on job reruns. 5. Assures that the telecommunications network enterprise application systems are is available to users on schedule and notifies staff when the network network systems cannot be available as scheduled. 6. Understands proper procedures for distinguishing the various types of hardware failures that can occur and the corrective actions that must be taken; 7. Describes hardware/software problems in detail to the hardware IT systems engineers and/or system applications development/programming staff. 8. Understands proper procedures and functions of the environmental conditioning devices and fire suppression systems that protect computer hardware and personnel. 9. Understands the functions and operations and the power management/conditioning equipment and related switch and monitor panels. 10. Coordinates with other shift supervisors on jobs in process, jobs not completed on the schedule, and problems to be anticipated at time of shift change; 11. Maintains staff awareness of changes in all operational techniques and areas relevant to an efficient and economical operation. 12. Upholds rules and guidelines established by management for a secure, safe, and orderly facility. 13. Performs related duties as needed.
