OFFICIAL TITLE: LEED Program Specialist CODE: 6145 SQ/OQ: Optimal Qualified
WORKING TITLE: LEED Program Specialist GRADE: 26 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, perform specialized and responsible work involving registration and certification of major capital projects with Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Direct implementation of MCPS strategies to meet USGBC requirements for new facilities utilizing LEED standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to motivate design teams and individuals to achieve required LEED certification for major capital projects. Knowledge of sustainable design standards in schools and the ability to monitor the LEED rating system and interpret rules to advise senior staff. Knowledge of high performance LEED design, energy efficiency and related environmental issues for schools . Computer skills. Ability to understand the impact buildings have on the environment and how thebuilding footprint can be reduced without compromising the educational specifications. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills; ability to interact with diverse audiences such as A/E teams, USGBC, and other MCPS consultants. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required. Experience in architectural technology and environmentally sustainable building practices. Expertise in high performance green design, energy efficiency and related environmental issues. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: LEED Accredited Professional preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to operate a computer terminal for long periods of time and occasionally move presentation material to school meetings.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to occasionally work on a flexible schedule and travel to schools as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitates A/E staff in obtaining LEED Silver Certification for all modernizations and new schools, meeting both county and state green building requirements.

Coordinates LEED project reviews with A/E teams, project architects, consultants, and clients.

Tracks, measures and reports key sustainability performance metrics across MCPS projects.

Monitors LEED rating system changes, denied credits, and rule interpretations and advises senior staff on same.

Researches green products and approaches and provide opportunities for evaluation by Design Team.

Assists in arranging for demonstration of promising technologies.

Reviews, edits and drafts sustainability-related sections of the Division of Construction's facility design guidelines.

Research green products and approaches, and provide opportunities for evaluation for possible inclusion in upcoming project.

Facilitate meetings for LEED projects, overseeing compliance with standards and advise consulting architects, engineers and DOC project managers and DFM leadership on process and best practices

MCPS Liaison to US Green Building Council for LEED certification of MCPS construction projects to satisfy county mandate (bill 17-06)

Maintains compliance documentation for green buildings ratings and certifications.

Performs related duties as assigned.
