SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems. Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of skilled tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electronic trade. Installation, servicing and minor repairs are performed at the schools and major repair work is performed in the shop. Assignments are received either orally or through written work orders and may be accompanied by technical specifications and diagrams. Work is often performed independently, subject to inspection for compliance with instructions and conformity with accepted safety standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Completion of the MCPS Electronics Test at the required score. Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair of audiovisual and other electronic equipment and systems. Working knowledge of the basic and applied principles of electronic and electrical theory. Ability to detect by inspection defects in equipment or systems and to make the proper adjustments or repairs. Ability to work from equipment manuals and technical drawings. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials of the trade. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Trade coursework in a recognized technical training course in television and radio servicing. Experience in the installation and repair of audiovisual and other electronic equipment. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland noncommerical Class C driver's license or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring physical exertion and climbing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Completion of the MCPS Electronics Test at the required score.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Installs, maintains, and repairs a wide variety of audiovisual equipment, television receivers, public address systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, and interoffice communication systems.

2. Visits schools and checks operating condition of audiovisual equipment.

3. Services and repairs various school--based instructional equipment.

4. Diagnoses defects and makes extensive shop repairs to television and radio receivers and other audiovisual and electronic equipment.

5. Installs, maintains, and repairs electric scoreboards, public address systems, fire alarm systems, interoffice communication systems, security alarm systems, and electronic clock systems for automatic control of bells and clocks in schools.

6. Plans and installs CAN at various MCPS sites.

7. Fabricates and assembles printed circuits, parts, and test equipment under direct supervision. Installs, maintains, tests, and repairs a variety of communication equipment.

8. Installs radios, transmitters, and receivers in buses, trucks, and passenger vehicles.

9. Checks frequency modification, and power input for compliance with FCC regulations.

10. Installs intra-school communications systems.

11. Prepares diagrams and sketches of equipment and systems to be installed and prepares estimates of materials and time required.

12. Maintains required test equipment, keeps records of activities as required by administrative procedures and FCC regulations.

13. Performs related work as required.
