Equipment Mechanic Repairer

WORKING TITLE: Equipment Mechanic Repairer GRADE: 17 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs skilled work in the maintenance of printing equipment. Work in this class involves the overall maintenance of a variety of devises of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to letter presses, offset printing presses, and related equipment. Incumbents must be knowledgeable of the mechanical and operational features of equipment in order to diagnose problems and make repairs with little direct supervision. Conducts a preventative maintenance program as a critical part of the overall maintenance of equipment. Work is performed in shops, schools, and in the repair shop.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of different devises and mechanical equipment, and tools necessary to perform repair work. Ability to analyze malfunctions and make effective repairs and adjustments; ability to prepare maintenance reports. Good human relations and communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Considerable experience in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of a variety of devises of mechanical equipment. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Maryland class D driver's license, or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring considerable bending, standing, and lifting.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) None

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Makes regularly scheduled and emergency calls to inspect and repair a variety of devises and equipment.

2. Completes minor electrical work such as replacing motors, wiring lamps, and installing switches. Investigates and repairs equipment such as paper cutters, plate-makers, embossers, stitchers, paper drills, collators, logetronics machine, etc.

3. Rebuilds hydraulic pumps for paper cutters.

4. Turns shafts to restore bearing surfaces.

5. Fabricates new parts using metal lathe and other metal working tools.

6. Determines the need for and requests assistance from electricians, plumbers, etc. in order to complete work assignments.

7. Requests parts for all machines.

8. Performs related work as assigned.
