Printing Equipment Operator I

MONTGOMERY COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLASS DESCRIPTION
OFFICIAL TITLE: Printing Equip Operator I CODE: 9000 SQ/OQ: Senior Qualified
WORKING TITLE: Printing Equipment Operator I GRADE: 11 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direct supervision, operates standard computer application, machines, and material-handling mechanisms and techniques associated with industrial printing. Consistently performs basic set-up and operations duties associated with one of the following major equipment categories: (1) duplicator/color copier, (2) lithographic printing/letterpress, (3) digital imaging/plate-making, (4) cutter/folder/collator/stitcher. Along with equipment operations, the work of this class includes maintaining a clean and well-organized work space, and ongoing communications with immediate manager and peers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and skill to safely and efficiently operate and maintain machines within one of the four equipment categories listed above. Able to operate electric forklift, stock jogger, mechanical palette handler, and specific sheet handling and finishing devices. Working knowledge of Outlook computer software system. Skilled in the accurate processing of a basic work order, and the timely assembly and packaging of document components. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS)
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Minimum of three continuing education, training or professional development courses (ie: MCPS-Professional Development Online PDO). Minimum two years of recent professional experience in industrial printing operations. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be taken into consideration in evaluating an applicants qualifications.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Valid drivers license required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to move heavy objects up to 50 lbs, to sustain repetitive arm, waist and leg motions, and to stand for extended periods. Ability to hear and see moving equipment components.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Occasional overtime required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Report to workplace according to duty schedule.

Check e-mail messages and respond as appropriate.

Receive work orders/duties from work group leader or manager.

Retrieve palette of paper stock using forklift, load paper stock into machines, operate printing and/or bindery machines repetitively, unload stock/documents, hole drill, stitch and/or hand-collate documents.

Lift 20-pound units of paper stock repetitively, jog and stack for cutter operations.

Position stock into pad press, apply adhesive, separate into uniform increments.

Count, bundle, and package printed materials for delivery to schools.

Operate print shop van to complete local deliveries.

Pursue cross-training with peer, and/or PDO training.

Maintain timesheet.

Perform related duties as assigned.
