OFFICIAL TITLE: Printing Equip Operator III CODE: 9010 SQ/OQ: Senior Qualified
WORKING TITLE: Printing Equipment Operator III GRADE: 16 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, operates various computer applications, machines, and material-handling mechanisms and techniques associated with industrial printing. Consistently performs advanced set-up and operation duties associated with two of the following major equipment categories: (1) duplicator/color copier, (2) lithographic printing/letterpress, (3) digital imaging/plate-making, (4) cutter/folder/collator/stitcher. Along with equipment operations, the work of this class includes maintaining a clean and well-organized work space, upkeep of personal work log, technical support to fellow operators, and inter-personal and e-mail communications with managers and peers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge and skill to safely and efficiently operate and maintain machines independently within two of the four equipment categories listed above. Considerable knowledge of Outlook, database computer software systems, and automated work order processing integrated systems. Intermediate professional correspondence skills. Ability to operate electric forklift, stock jogger, mechanical palette handler, and various sheet handling and finishing devices. Advanced skills with systems software associated with a major equipment category. Skilled in the accurate processing of various written work order formats, selection and handling of various printing materials, and the timely assembly and packaging of document components. Advanced knowledge of paper stock and printing system characteristics, and sheet finishing options. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Minimum of seven continuing education, training or professional development courses (ie: MCPS-Professional Development Online PDO). Minimum seven years of recent professional experience in industrial printing operations. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Valid drivers license required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to move heavy objects up to 50 lbs, to sustain repetitive arm, waist and leg motions, and to stand for extended periods. Ability to hear and see moving equipment components.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Occasional overtime required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Report to workplace according to duty schedule.

Check e-mail messages and respond as appropriate.

Retrieve electronic files from server and utilize advanced software for digital output to specialized materials.

Retrieve press plates from digital imaging, install, make-ready with related materials, operate equipment repetitively, adjust equipment as needed, execute wash-up/job completion.

Retrieve palette of large press sheets, set-up folder/cutter/stitcher/collator, operate equipment repetitively.

Log work notes on Job Form, update Excel files with production-related data.

Assist fellow equipment operator with trouble-shooting/QA duties.

Pursue cross-training with peer, and/or PDO training.

Maintain timesheet and personal work log.

Perform all duties of PEO II as required and related duties as assigned.
