Twenty-two MCPS Students Named National Merit Scholarship Winners

Twenty-two MCPS students from eight high schools have been awarded National Merit $2,500 scholarships financed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The students are among 43 high school seniors in Maryland to be selected in the latest group of National Merit recipients. The scholars were selected from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists, and will receive a one-time award of $2,500 for post-secondary education. Read more.


Blair High School Teachers Surprised With $5,000 to Support Journalism Program

Three Montgomery Blair High School teachers were surprised with $5,000 from the National Education Association (NEA) and National PTA to kick off National Teacher Appreciation Week on Monday. Jeremy Stelzner, Maria Eugenia Tanos and Michelle Elie oversee Blair’s nationally recognized and award winning student newspaper, Silver Chips. Read more.


Session One Enrollment For Regional and Central High School Summer School Closes May 31

Session One of both Regional Summer High School Program (in person) and Central High School Summer Program (virtual) enrollment closes Friday, May 31. In both programs, the first session will run from June 26–July 16 (no class on July 4); the second session will run from July 18–Aug. 6. Session Two enrollment closes Sunday, June 30. Parents can register students on their ParentVue accounts. Read more.


2024 Graduation Schedule Available Online

High school commencement ceremonies will be held between Wednesday, May 29, and Wednesday, June 12. Graduation ceremonies will take place on individual high school campuses, at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and on the campuses of Mount St. Mary’s University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

May Is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month

MCPS recognizes and celebrates the history and experiences of Asian Pacific Americans. The district is committed to including that history into its curricula to foster understanding, empathy and support of Asian Pacific students and families. 


  • Student Webinar on Understanding and Addressing Anti-Asian Hate
    Students in grades 6-12 are invited to attend a webinar on Tuesday, May 21, to understand, prevent and stand up to anti-Asian hate. Students will receive two Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for attending and reflecting on their learning.

National Jewish American Heritage Month is a time for all Americans to recognize and celebrate the contributions Jewish Americans have made to American history, culture and society. MCPS is committed to educating students about Jewish American history and addressing antisemitism in its schools.

  • Virtual Event on Jewish History in MCPS’ Social Studies Curricula

    The MCPS Social Studies team will share how Jewish history is integrated into its elementary and secondary curricula. Register to attend. Students, parents and caregivers are welcome.

Enrollment Is Open for Prekindergarten and Kindergarten

Children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2024, are eligible to register for kindergarten.


Educators Celebrated at National Board Certification Pinning Ceremony

Congratulations to the 152 MCPS educators who achieved certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in 2023. Another 73 successfully maintained their certifications.


Board Honors 2024 Distinguished Service Awards Recipients

The Montgomery County Board of Education honored 12 recipients during a celebration of the 27th Annual Awards for Distinguished Service to Public Education on May 7. The awards were established by the Board to recognize and show appreciation for exemplary contributions to public education and to MCPS. Check out a photo gallery from the event.


MCPS Adds Four New Green Schools; 26 Schools and One Center Recertify

Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School, Cabin John Middle School, and Albert Einstein and James Hubert Blake high schools have been named 2024 Maryland Green Schools, bringing the MCPS total to 101. Read more.


Students Ride Into National Bike to School Day

Students at Ritchie Park Elementary School were among dozens of MCPS students who celebrated Bike and Roll to School Day on May 8, a national event that encouraged students to walk, bike or scooter to school.
