Application Now Available for the MCPS Blended Learning Program for Long-Term Medically Impacted Students

Dear MCPS Families,

The application form for the new Blended Learning Program for Long-Term Medically Impacted Students is now available. This program is designed to provide comprehensive educational services in both synchronous and asynchronous virtual environments for students who, due to medical conditions, are unable to attend in-person school for up to one year, as determined by a licensed medical professional.

Families can access the application online starting today, October 1, 2024. We encourage those interested to apply as soon as possible. The program will officially begin on November 6, 2024.

Here are some highlights of what to expect while in the program.

  • Students will receive synchronous instruction at least four days a week, with daily asynchronous sessions.

  • When possible, instruction will take place during the traditional school day, but synchronous instruction may take place outside the school day.

  • Special Education, Section 504, and English Language Development services are provided.

  • Elementary students (Grades K-5) receive weekly synchronous lessons in core subjects such as English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

  • Middle school students (Grades 6-8) have weekly synchronous sessions in core subjects and limited electives.

  • High school students have synchronous instruction in core areas required for graduation, with a limited course selection. Most high school synchronous instruction occurs outside of traditional school hours.

Important Notes

  • Applicants must submit a completed application form and medical verification from a treating practitioner

  • Students must reside in Montgomery County, MD, and be actively enrolled in an MCPS school.
