Meet Us at National Night Out! Celebrate Community with MCPS
Join MCPS at National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at:
- Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, 5–8 p.m.
- Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 608 North Horners Lane, Rockville, 6–8:30 p.m.
National Night Out celebrates community partnerships and promotes camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. These events will be held rain or shine, and include food trucks, local vendors and fun activities for all ages.

Transition Day is Coming Aug. 25 - What’s That?
Student Transition Day is a new, full-day initiative in the 2025–2026 school year calendar designed to ease the transition for students entering new school levels or buildings by fostering belonging, familiarity and preparedness before all students return to school.

Get In the Game! Athletics Registration Open Now; Tryouts Start Aug. 13
Registration for all high school fall sports is open. Parents must register their students online via ParentVue. Tryouts for fall sports begin on Wednesday, Aug. 13. For sport-specific information, contact the athletic director at your school.

Summer’s Not Over; Keep Earning SSL Hours!
August opportunities are now available for students to earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours toward the 75-hour state graduation requirement.
Students who have completed fifth grade can start earning SSL hours. There are some in-person opportunities and remote opportunities that follow the guidelines posted on the MCPS SSL webpage.

Spark Curiosity! Come to the STEM Festival on Aug. 16
Montgomery County Recreation is hosting a free back-to-school STEM Festival from noon–3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the East County Community Recreation Center, 3310 Gateshead Manor Way in Silver Spring. This event includes interactive exhibits exploring science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
